Mrs. Shirley Flax, 85, Albany and formerly of Utica, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2007 , in the Daughters Of Sarah Nursing Home, Albany, where she resided.

She was born on September 4, 1922, in Utica, the daughter of the late Dr. A. P. and Harriett Levitt Goldstein and was educated in Utica schools. On June 3, 1945, Shirley married Victor Flax in Temple Beth El, Utica. Mr. Flax passed away December 16, 1997.

Shirley was a member of Temple Beth El and Sisterhood.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Al Lovenheim of Voorheesville, NY and Bonnie and Elliott Perman of Suffern, NY; her sister, Evelyn Rakofsky of FL; her grandchildren, Jill and Jason Goldner of Syosset, NY, Dr. Jay and Shari Lovenheim of Short Hills, NJ, Jennifer and Jason Kempin of Brooklyn and Jason Perman of New York City; her great grandchildren, Alex and Grady Goldner; several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be Tuesday at a time to be announced, from the Temple Beth El, 2710 Genesee Street, Utica. Interment will be in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Whitesboro. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service until the time of the service at the Temple. Shiva will be observed privately by the family. Contributions in her memory may be offered to the Victor and Shirley Flax Fund at Temple Beth El, Utica or the Albany Chapter of Hospice.

The family would like to thank all of Shirley's nurses and aides for all of their loving and compassonate care she received.

Her funeral arrangements are with Jacobson-Pizer Funeral Chapel, Inc., 1123 Court Street, Utica, NY.
