Dr. Darren C. Goins Darren was born on June 19, 1972 in Jacksonville, FL, as the son of Margaret Goins of Jacksonville, FL. He was also the son of the late Darrel D. Goins, Sr. Specializing in rhetoric and performance studies Darren was a professor at Baltimore, Johns Hopkins, Towson, and Stevenson universities of Maryland. A writer, director, and performer Darren showcased plays on a national level--most recently at Baltimore's Artscape 2010. Darren had a passion for learning, communications, and helping others to be their best, which was exemplified through his work as a tutor at the Sylvan Learning Center. He earned his undergraduate degree in creative writing and English from Emory University; master's in rhetoric from Florida State University, and his doctorate of philosophy in performance studies from Louisiana State University. A founding member and active playwright for VoX Theatre in Baltimore, two of his recent plays, 'Double Tap' and 'Constructed' were being performed in Baltimore, MD, Buffalo, NY, and San Diego, CA. In addition to his mother, Darren leaves his two sisters and their husbands, Molly Goins-Cox and Michael, and their daughter, Maggie, of West Hartford, CT; and Mona Goins Marbut and Roger, and their sons Roger and Ryan, of Woodstock, GA. He also leaves beloved friends Adam Hrincevich and David Biglari. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church (chapel), 742 Arlington RD, Jacksonville, FL 32211, Saturday, August 28th at 10 am.
