Bernice was the daughter of Ben Gober & Tempie Gilley. She was one of eleven children born to the family.
Mama had a hard life, quiting school in the 4th grade to go to work in the fields, with her father. She told of times during the depression when they would work from sunrise to sunset for 50 cents and were happy to get it. She was always independant and did not look to anyone for help.
Mama knew Daddy all of her life. In 1900 Grandpa & Grandma Gober were newly weds living next door to my Grandpa & Grandma Amberson, Daddy was 8.
Mom & Dad married October 6, 1941 Buchanon, Haralson County, Georgia. They moved to Waco, Texas shortly after their marriage and had a restaurant near the air base. By 1944 they were in Tarrant City and had a grocery store till after WWII. They opened Amberson's Restaurant and 16th Street and 1st Avenue in Birmingham 1954, operating the restaurant until Daddy died 1956.
