He was born November 24, 1933 in LaHarpe, the son of Edgar and Metta Robinson Gleason. On April 4, 2006 he married Virginia Taylor in LaHarpe.
Mr. Gleason was a 1951 graduate of LaHarpe High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Air Force from 1953 - 1957. He farmed near LaHarpe for many years and later was a school bus driver for the LaHarpe School District. He was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion and the Lions Club. He enjoyed watching all sports, but especially his grandson playing football.
Surviving are his wife, one son, Marty (Julie) Gleason of Fairfield, Iowa, one daughter, Kate Biggiam of Wataga, Illinois, three step-children, Larry (Gina) Hanshaw of Pleasant Plain, Iowa, Kim (Gary) Schreffler of Keosauqua, Iowa and Terry Hanshaw of Fairfield, Iowa, six grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Ball, one sister, Annalee Johnson and one brother, Emery Gleason.
The family will meet with friends, Sunday June 6, 2010 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Burial will be held at a later date in LaHarpe Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
