Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday for Henry "Hank" A. Gladysz Jr., 65, of 519 Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell. He died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday (3-25-12) in the hospital at Sharon Regional Health System following a brief illness.

He was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Sharon to Henry A. and Anna Lutz Gladysz, Sr. His mother survives at home; his father passed away July 18, 1970.

Henry was a Roman Catholic by faith.

A graduate of Farrell High School, class of 1965, he later enlisted in the Navy.

While serving aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Forrestal during the Vietnam War, he witnessed the horrific explosion and resulting fire on July 29, 1967, which claimed 134 lives while engaged in the Gulf of Tonkin maneuvers.

He had worked at Container Products Co., Masury; and the Farrell plant of the former Sharon Steel Corp.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell; and Ducks Unlimited. Henry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed golf and bowling.

He is survived by a daughter, Nicole Gladysz, Sharpsville; and a son, Michael and his wife Stacey, Cleveland.

Also surviving is a sister, Bonnie Gray and her companion Jim Surles, Farrell; as well as a granddaughter, Brooke Gladysz; two grandsons, Evan and Ethan Gladysz; and a great-granddaughter Leila Kinnear.

His beloved black Labrador retriever, Bear, preceded him in death.

Burial: In the cemetery with military honors rendered by Sharon Honor Guard.
