Martha Givan Canfield, daughter of George and Sabrina Given was born at Holman Feb. 13, 1852 and died suddenly Jan. 5, 1924, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. Meyer.
On October 1, 1874, she was united in marriage to Elias C. Canfield, and to this union were born seven children, three having preceeded her in death. Surviving her are her husband, four children, Mrs. C.H. Croff of Spokane Bridge, Wash., Mrs. L. Meyer and Mrs. John McMullen, both of Holman, and Congressman Harry C. Canfield, of Batesville and one brother, Douglas Givan of Indianapolis.
Funeral services were held Jan. 8th, in the Holman Church, Rev. C.J. Casey of Hope officiating, with burial in the cemetery nearby.

Dies Suddenly at the Home of Her Daughter
Mrs. Martha Canfield of Batesville died very suddenly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Meyer, near Sunman Saturday evening at 6 o'clock. She was sitting in a chair shelling pop-corn when she dropped from the chair and expired without a struggle.
She is the mother of Congressman Harry C. Canfield, and was seventy-one years of age. The Congressman was called home from Washington by her death.
