Mildred Austin, 88, of Waco, formerly of Tyler and Amarillo, went to the loving arms of Jesus Thursday, July 24, 2008, at a local care center.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in Tyler, with Chaplain Vic Willmann officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Mildred Lee was born in Bristow, Okla., to Roy and Maxine Gilman. Mildred owned and operated a real estate office in Tyler, and later moved to Amarillo, where she continued to sell real estate. She married S. Y. Austin on March 12, 1937, in Norman, Okla. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo, golf, and sewing and was a wonderful cook. She had a loving and giving heart to the people around her. She also had a great sense of humor. Mildred had a love for all animals. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Houston when she lived there many years ago. For many years she was very active in Senior Olympics with a nursing home in Rockdale.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Margaret Kilpatrick of Waco; son, Max Austin, and wife, Jerry of Troup, Texas; and she was affectionately known as "Mimi" to six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
