Bishop Bennie Gildon, 66, Altus, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Pastor Charlene Walker officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Bennie Lee Gildon was born on July 5, 1943 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Abe and Janie (Baker) Gildon. He attended Booker T. Washington, east of Tipton. He graduated from Boyd High School in Frederick, Oklahoma with the class of 1963. After graduating, he joined the US Army. He was united in marriage to Lois Elix on July 22, 1964 in Frederick. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he and Lois resided in California for 39 years. While there, two sons were born. Bennie was called by the Lord to preach the Word in 1995. Bennie and Lois returned to Oklahoma in 2003, where they lived in Frederick. They moved to Altus in 2009, where he was a Bishop with New Beginning Full Gospel Ministry. He and Lois attended church in Altus under the pastorship of Charlene Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Johnnie B., Clarence, Bobbie G., and Edward E., a sister, Peggy Whitehead, and an aunt, Ellen Jackson. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Walter Gildon of Riverside, California, and Patrick Gildon and his wife, Sheila, of Represa, California; seven grandchildren, Mahjong, Quantis, Sharona, Patrick, Zach, Ezekiel and Shamekia; five brothers, Royce Gildon and Aaron Gildon and his wife, Linda, all of Anaheim, California, Willie Troy Gildon, Jackie Ray Gildon and his wife, Laquetta, and Jack Perry and his wife, Gwen, all of Frederick, Oklahoma; a sister, Lillie Malone and her husband, Plez, of Clinton, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Kay Gildon and her husband, Edward, of Hobart, Juanita Gildon and her husband, Clarence, of Louisiana, and Mary Copeland and her husband, Bobbie, of Altus; an uncle, Roosevelt Gildon and his wife, Linda, of Wichita Falls, Texas; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and other relatives and friends.
