Obituary
Unidentified Newsclipping - 1891
RISLEY.--Amelia Risley, widow of the late Rev. Raphael Gilbert, of New York East Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, was born in East Hartford, Connecticut, November 16, 1801, and died at her home in Brooklyn, New York, January 31, 1891. At fifteen she was converted, but not having the help she needed became indifferent; but three years later, under the preaching of Rev. John Newland Maffit, she was reclaimed and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church. January 17, 1830, she was married to the Rev. Raphael Gilbert. She was a great help to him in his ministerial work. Patient in suffering, joyous in hope, and walking in the light of God, her life was full of sunshine and religious gladness. It was a heavenly benediction to visit her and hear of her faith in Jesus. Her last hours were peaceful and triumphant. The funeral service was held in York Street Methodist Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, New York, and was conducted by the pastor, assisted by the Rev. Charles Potts Corner.
