SIOUX CITY -- Cecelia J. "Cea" Gifford, 86, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, March 16, 2012, with the comfort of her family's presence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Karl Luther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Cecelia, the daughter of Felix and Elsie (Hoag) Boucher, was born on Feb. 6, 1926, at home in Sioux City. She was the first born in a family of six children. She attended school at St. Boniface Catholic and West Junior High School. Early in her life, she was employed with Cudahy's Packing Plant, Armour and Company, Weller's Manufacturing Co. and Lone Star Retail Store.
She married Roland "Bud" Gifford on July 21, 1956, in Elk Point, S.D. She enjoyed 54 years together, most of this time residing at their home in the Crescent Park area of Sioux City. She had resided the past two and a half years at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center on the city's west side.
She was a former member and officer of the Siouxland T.O.P.S. organizations. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and North Riverside Masonic Lodge 622. She enjoyed dancing, cooking, bowling, golf, traveling, and years of playing cards.
Survivors include her son, Mike Griggs and his wife, Cathy of Early, Iowa; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin and Danielle Griggs of Boone, Iowa, and Denise and Todd Brekke of West Des Moines; five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Talynn, Trevor, Emily, and Nick; a brother, Roger Boucher and his wife, Joanne of Turlock, Calif.; two sisters, Beverly Bradbury and Genevieve Bishop, both of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland "Bud" Gifford; her parents; and two sisters, Maxine Moore and Lorraine Stouquert.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Norman Allyn, Richard Bradbury and Darrel Pearson; her son's best friends, Ron Simmons and Don Dunning; and her grandson, Todd Brekke.
May all who knew and loved her be comforted with the thought that she is now at peace with her beloved husband, forever and ever.
