Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend returned home to the loving arms of her family and Father in Heaven at Gunnison Valley Hospital in Gunnison, Utah on July 31, 2009, five days before her 90th birthday.


Emma was born in Portage, Utah on August 5, 1919 to William Arthur John and Grace Victoria Halford. She was the second child with three sisters and five brothers.


She married her eternal companion, Roy Gibbs, on June 11, 1936. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with three children, Dennis Terrel, Sue (Pete) Whitehead, Juneau Alaska, and Pam (Randy) Stewart, Centerfield. Adding to their blessings are nine grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.


Mom served in various positions in the church. She loved her Heavenly Father and was a great example to all who knew her. Her greatest source of happiness was her family.


Survived by two brothers, Rodney T. John and Cleon John; sisters-in-law, Velda, Ada, Jeanine, and Bonnie and brother-in-law, Delos. Preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Dennis; granddaughter, Debbie; three sisters; and three brothers.


Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the Funeral Home.
Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
