U.S. Congressman. He graduated from West Nottingham Academy, studied medicine at the University of Maryland and commenced to practice medicine in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania, in 1824. Entering politics, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses, serving (1839-43). After his term, he continued the practice of medicine until 1870. He died in retirement at age 76.
