Gladys E. Evans died peacefully January 15, 2013 in Houston.

Gladys gave many years service as a school secretary for the Houston Independent School District, and held office in the Houston Education Secretaries Association. After retirement, she joined Houston Area Retired Teachers Association.

Gladys loved swimming, trips to the country with her family, and spending time with her grandchildren; she lived to see three great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Westchase United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James Timothy (Monty) Evans, her brothers Alvin Oliver Gerland and Leroy Odell Gerland, and her parents Lydia and Ollie Louis Gerland.

Gladys is survived by her sister Eileen Stevens; brother Oliver Gerland; son, Gerald (Jerry) Monty Evans and wife Mattie Elizabeth Fletcher Evans; grandchildren Adrienne Fletcher Evans Williams and husband David Keith Williams, Andrew McGregor Evans and wife Molly Belknap Russell Evans, and Caroline FitzRandolph Evans; and great-grandchildren Dalton Fletcher Williams, Everett Callaway Williams, and Elizabeth Evans Williams.

Funeral Services will be held at the Robert L. Waltrip Memorial Chapel at Texas Liberty Mausoleum on Saturday January 19 at 1pm with Visitation one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, N.J. 08540, or at www.autismspeaks.org.
