Ruth Elinor Gerber was born December 8, 1917 in Carlton, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Gerber.
She attended Lum Country School.
Ruth married her first husband, George Sharrard, he preceded her in death. She married her second husband John "Jack" Barrett on July 14, 1983. Ruth has spent 75 years on the family farm.
She was a member of West Goodland United Methodist Church in Imlay City and Ruth donated land for the church building. She was a waitress at Hi Speed Restaurant at Pure Oil Gas Station in Imlay City. She also worked at Apache Campers in Lapeer and Hurd Lock in Almont. Ruth enjoyed cooking, baking, her garden and flowers.
Ruth is survived by her grandchildren, Fred Hill of Mayville, Julie (Marty) Bader of Gurnee, IL, Eugene (Barb) Dale, Jr. of Imlay City, Deborah Bruns of FL, and Dawn (Louis) Betker of TN; several great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; sister, Donna Baker of Pontiac.
She is preceded in death by her husbands George Sharrard and John "Jack" Barrett; daughters, Beverly Hill Balfour in 1999 and Sharon Kay West in 1984; grandson, Stephen Hill; brothers, Clarence Gerber and Frank Gerber.
Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at West Goodland United Methodist Church in Imlay City. Pastor Pam Barnett officiated. Burial followed at Imlay Township Cemetery.
