Catherine (Kate) nee Carrig was the wife of Nicholas J. Gentleman. They were married in 1893. She was the daughter of James C. and Ellen (Langan) Carrig who were born in Ireland.

"Katie C. Gentleman, daughter of James Carrig, one of the oldest pioneers of the Shell Creek territory in Platte County, died at Kearney, Nebr. at 6:45 a.m. last Saturday, August 30.
Mrs. Gentleman was formerly Katie C. Carrig and was born on the old homestead on Sheel Creek north of Columbus, March 18, 1870, being 43 years 5 months and 12 days old at the time of her death.
She grew to womanhood on the old homestead where she was always known for her kind and loving disposition and her many good qualities. She attended school in district No. 12 on Shell Creek, and later attended high school at both Platte Center and Columbus. For a number of years she taught in various schools of Platte County, at one time being assistant principal of the Platte Center High School.
She was joined in wedlock to N. J. Gentleman at Platte Center about twenty years aago. They resided in Platte Center until twelve years ago when they moved to Kearney where Mr. Gentleman is connected with the city electrict light and water company.
For several years past Mrs. Gentleman did not enjoy good health. Her condition was not considered serious until a few days prior to her death, when a specialist from Omaha, treating her in company with one of the leading physicians of Kearney, announced that she could not long survive. Death was due to liver trouble and dropsy. She leaves besides her husband, one son, Gerald, and a daughter, Aileen; also her aged father, James Carrig, who has made his home with her for a number of years; three brothers, C. C. Carrig, president of the Kearney Land Company of Kearney, Neb.; Henry C. Carrig, residing in Kansas City, MO; and Jerry Carrig, register of deeds, of Columbus. All the members of the family were with her before her death, except Henry, who could not reach Kearney in time.
Funeral services were held at the residence in Kearney Sunday afternoon at 3 O'clock. Rev. Fr. Munstermann, pastor of St. James Catholic church, of Kearney, officiated. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Kearney. A large number of relatives and old time friends from Platte county went up to attend the funeral and pay their respects to the memory of one who was near and dear to them. To know Mrs. Gentleman was to love her. Always of a pleasing disposition, with ever a kind and cheerful word for everyone, she was one of God's own."
