George grew up on his father and grandfather's cucumber farm/greenhouses on East Street. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was a deep sea salvage diver and electrician. He served on several ships, and retired after 22 1/2 years. He then worked for the Dept of the Navy and several other companies. He moved to Florida in 1978. He was married twice.
