Elizabeth died June 9, 2009, when hit on her bike from behind while in the bike lane. She died from injuries landing 170 feet from where she was hit. Before she was the "Bike Lady," Elizabeth Dawn Allmon was a concert pianist with a degree in computer science. But things changed for Allmon after she suffered from post-partum depression and went through a divorce that ended in her husband gaining custody of the couple's children. Allmon, 51, had become a recognizable sight in Navarre. Drivers would see her along roadways and shoppers would spot her near grocery stores.

Allmon was homeless when she died. She was living in a storage unit, but her family was unaware of that. It was a stark contrast to woman they knew who once worked in the computer field and could type 110 words per minute. In hopes of helping others like Elizabeth Allmon, her family members and Navarre friends hope to build a homeless shelter in Navarre called Elizabeth's House. A bank account at Vision Bank has been set up in her name to help with funeral costs and the shelter.

"She was a beautiful woman," a friend said. "She had big glasses and mismatched clothes and people couldn't tell how beautiful she was. But she really did touch a lot of people's lives. She was a little angel sent here for us to help."
