ANTHONY J. GAST
Anthony J. Gast, 70, of 55 Erie, life-long Valparaiso resident and charter member of the local Knights of Columbus lodge, died unexpectedly late Friday night in his home of a heart attack. He had been under a doctor's care but had not been seriously ill.
Born in Valparaiso Jan. 28, 1884, he married Verna Yanke Oct. 12, 1909, in Otis, Ind. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic church and was one of three surviving charter Knights of Columbus members, the others being C. P. Daly and Louis Gast, a relative.
Surviving are his widow; two sons, Arnold of Valparaiso and Walter of Michigan City; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Knoblock and Mrs. Clarence Flitter of Valparaiso; a sister, Mrs. Frances Stupeck of Hammond; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Prayers will be said at 8:30 a.m. Monday in Dykes Funeral home and services will follow at 9 a.m. in St. Paul's church. The Rev. Raymond Derrick will officiate and burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 o'clock tonight until services. Knights of Columbus will recite a rosary at 8 o'clock tonight and another rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial rites for Anthony J. Gast, 70, of 55 Erie, who died unexpectedly late Friday night, were conducted Monday morning.
Prayers were said at 8:30 a.m. at the Dykes Funeral home and requiem high mass was recited at 9 o'clock at St. Paul's Catholic church by the Rev. Raymond Derrick. Burial was in St. Paul's cemetery.
Six members of the Knights of Columbus served as honorary pallbearers. They were Louis Gast, C. P. Daly, Frank Fabing, Paul and Frank McAuliffe, and Andrew Negosinske.
Active pallbearers were Arthur, Bernard, John and Frederick Gast, Arthur Bentley, and Robert Stupeck.
