Edward G. Garvey Nov. 26, 1947 - Feb. 8, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Edward George Garvey, 67, passed away February 8, 2015, from a pulmonary embolism in Austin, Texas. Beloved brother, he is survived by his sister, Gail Garvey (Gary Drivold), of Richfield, MN; his brothers, Robert Garvey, (Nina Costales) of Richmond, CA, Peter Garvey (Kathie Garvey) of Kalamazoo, MI, Patrick Garvey of St. Paul, MN, and Kathleen Garvey (Steven Erickson) of Ann Arbor, MI; and many nieces and nephews, as well as an extended network of cousins. Edward was a graduate of Holy Cross Grade School, St. Joseph High School, Notre Dame University and University of Texas Law School. He practiced law in the private and public sectors. Edward had a keen intellect and quick, acerbic wit that made him a gifted conversationalist. His introverted nature found great joy in the pages of a well-written book, in the tiles of a challenging Scrabble game, or in the clever grids of the New York Times crossword puzzle. He was a lifelong learner who found the world an interesting place and sought out answers to most questions through persistent research. He was a gifted writer and a champion of the grammatically correct, well-crafted sentence. He was a volunteer copy editor and legal consultant to friends and family alike. Edward was a loyal Notre Dame alumnus football fan. Those who were blessed to know him miss him tremendously and hold memories of him close to their hearts. A memorial service to celebrate Edward's life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 12 noon at the Log Chapel on the University of Notre Dame's campus.
