Daniel Arcenio ''Dan'' Garcia, age 71, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M., passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Trementina, N.M. on Feb. 23, 1936 to the late Gregorio Garcia and Eulalia Maes Garcia He was united in marriage to Maria Flora Marquez on Aug. 26, 1961 at the San Miguel Del Vado Church in San Miguel, N.M. .
He retired in 1986 from the N.M. State Hospital where he was employed for 26 years as a Psych Tech.
He had a passion for training horses to dance and was known to have a generous heart with a sense of humor. He was a Grand-Marshal in the 4th of July Parade in 1992 in Las Vegas, N.M.
A lifetime Catholic, he was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, N.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Gregorio and Eulalia Garcia; brothers: Benito Garcia and Willie Garcia; sister: Antonia Archuleta.
He is survived by his wife: Flora Garcia of Las Vegas, N.M.; daughters: Jeannette Robinson and husband Christopher of Denver, Colorado, Geraldine Cole of Salt Lake City, Utah, Joy Shrum and husband John of Las Vegas, N.M. and Dana Jean Garcia of Las Vegas, N.M.; son: Jonathan Torres of Las Vegas, N.M.; grandson: Michael Daniel Garcia of Las Vegas, N.M.; sisters: Priscilla DeLeon of Denver, Colorado, Veronica Bustamante and husband Abel, Marcella Garcia, Ernestine Dykstra, Christine Gonzales, Helen Delgado and husband Robert and Linda Garcia all of Albuquerque, N.M.; brothers: Frederico Garcia and wife Molly of Denver, Colorado, Lorenzo Garcia and wife Maria of Albuquerque, Navor Garcia and wife Arabelle of Las Vegas, N.M.; sister-in-law: Rita Garcia of Las Vegas, N.M.; brother-in-law: Tomas Marquez and wife Isabel of Albuquerque, N.M.; numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services were conducted on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, N.M.
The mass of resurrection was celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Las Vegas, with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.
Interment followed at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas, N.M. with the following serving as casket bearers: Frederico Garcia, Lorenzo Garcia, Navor Garcia, Estevan Salazar, Esequiel Dimas and Enrique Estrada.
