Richard S. García, age 78, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Sunday, November 4, 2001.
Richard was born in Tajique, NM to the late Frank and Emelia García.
Richard was a parishioner of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, a proud Veteran of the United States Army, who served our country during World War II. Richard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Richard was a Deputy Sheriff of Torrance County during the 1950s.
Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Ricarda (Rich) García-Montez and a grandson, Chris Maldonado.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Candy García of the family home, his children, Lucille Maldonado, Gloria Giarratano, Daniel García, Steve García, Patrick García, Clarence García and Nadine Garcia, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Julian García, Alex García, Jerry García and Mariano García, four sisters, Peggy Anaya, Amy Anaya, Frances Herrera and Rita Sedillo and numerous extended relatives.
Richard will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him.
Visitations will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at San Antonito Catholic Church, in Tajique, NM. Interment will follow at the Tajique Catholic Church Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Pat Maldonado, Marcos Valencia, Derik Montes, Steve García Jr., Sal Chávez and Jack Chávez. Honorary bearers will be Danny García and Tony Maldonado.
