He was born Jan 24, 1893 on the Gantz homestead farm in Clay District of Wood County, WV that his grandfather, William George Gantz, had established in 1852. He completed an 8th grade education at Windy Road School near his home. He married Eunice Minerva Ward on Sep 27, 1914 at Red Hill, Wood County, WV. In 1946, his barn was struck by lighting and burned to the ground. Financially unable to rebuild the barn to support his dairy herd, he sold the homestead farm in 1947 and to moved to Macksburg Ridge near Lowell, Ohio and reestablished his dairy farm. He continued farming until his health failed due to cancer of the stomach. In 1954, he sold the Ohio farm and moved to Ogdin Road near Waverly, WV to be near family and where he died in August 1955.
