Caroline "Carrie" (Gano) Butler, born about 1835, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, she was the daughter of William Gano and Jemima Smith.

***** RESEARCHERS Please Note Some have attributed the name VanArsdalen to this Caroline Gano. That is incorrect. Caroline VanArsdalen Gano's findagrave memorial is ID 15492020. She died in 1852 at age 16, is buried in the Mill Lane Cemetery in Somerset County, NJ, never married, and was the daughter of Stephen Gano and Martha Quick Gano. *****

Caroline Gano, daughter of William Gano and Jemima Smith, married Benjamin F. Butler September 2, 1858, in Shelby County, Ohio. ("Marriage License issued to Benjamin Butler, of Ohio and Caroline Gano of NJ. It is written "vouched for by gent's father". Marriage occurred same day, performed by A.D. Young, JP")

Carrie and Benjamin had one known son, Richard Butler.

Please note: Date of birth is not listed on Death Certificate. Date of death: May 11, 1919. Age at time of death: 83 years, 6 months and 6 days. This calculates an alternate date of birth of Nov 5, 1835. I am going with the year of birth listed on the headstone for now. Other, the final resting place of William Gano, Carrie's father is not known at this time.
