Margaret Young Galvin

Margaret Young Galvin of Lebanon, and formerly of Dover, died at 4:10 a.m. Saturday after a brief illness. Her health had been declining for the last few years.
She was born July 22, 1931, in Jefferson Township, Boone County, to Riel Young and Eva Grimes. She married Morris W. Galvin on Nov. 11, 1951, at Dover. He died in 1999.
She worked as the guidance department secretary at Western Boone. She was a graduate of Dover High School in 1948. She was a longtime member of Dover Christian Church and attended Centenary Methodist Church while her health permitted.
She moved to Lebanon in 1994, she served in several leadership roles in community organizations, among them were Order of Eastern Star in Thorntown and in 2011 received her 50-year pin, American Legion Auxiliary, Golden K, Kiwanis of Lebanon, Dover Ladies Aid Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and was charter member and founding president of Merri-Mixers Home Demonstration Club.
In addition to serving as a volunteer for Witham Hospital for many years, she also served on the Boone County Council on Aging among other volunteer activities. She was a lifetime basketball fan, attending games as an infant at Dover High School and following the Indiana Pacers to the playoffs. In her later years she enjoyed decorating her home and yard on Meridian Street and hosting family and friends for the Fourth of July parade.
Survivors are daughters, Malinda Dee Voorhis (Russ), Mechanicsburg, and Maurita Kaye Barrett (Don), Zionsville; son Marc (Becky) Galvin, Watkinsville, Ga.; five grandchildren, Marc A. (Bo) (Haley) Galvin, Statesboro, Ga., Matthew Robins (Robbie) Galvin, Marietta, Ga., Jenna Kaye Barrett and Donald (Gene) Barrett, Zionsville, and Luke Riel Galvin, Watkinsville, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Centenary Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Ramsey and Marcie Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Dover Cemetery. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. today at Russell & Hitch Funeral Home, Lebanon.
