"Gilbert Galpin, 24, Williamsfield, Ill., died in St Mary's Hospital at 4:30 p.m. yesterday of head injuries received in a traffic accident in Decatur Sunday.

Coroner Harold Brintlinger said Galpin, a Korean war veteran, never regained consciousness after the accident at 6:10 a.m. Sunday. Police reported there were no witnesses to the accident and that Galpin was alone in his car.

Police officers said the car apparently failed to make the curve at Route 121 and East Wood Street. The car went over the curb and struck a tree in the northwest corner of Nelson Park. The death of Galpin was the fifth traffic fatality for Decatur this year. An inquest will be held.

Galpin, who married Miss Bertha Hall of Mt Zion in Palpinto, Tex., July 31, 1952, served as an Air Force clerk in Korea. He was born in Galesburg, Ill., Sept. 9, 1928.

He leaves his wife and his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Olson of Williamsfield.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Dawson and Wiloff Funeral Home where friends may call. Graveside services and burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Williamsfield Cemetery." The Decatur Daily Review (Decatur, Illinois), August 28, 1953
