GALLAGHER, CHRISTOPHER MATTHEW (CHRIS) ENSIGN US NAVY - age 33, of Norfolk, VA passed away suddenly Friday afternoon, April 3 in Norfolk. Chris grew up in Oneida, TN, graduated from Oak Ridge High School and attended the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, before joining the Navy in 1995. He was due to graduate from the Uniformed Services Health Sciences University as a Navy Medical Doctor on May 16, 2009, with the rank of Lieutenant. His grandparents, Thomas McPhail Jr. and Dorothy McPhail, who were from North Little Rock Arkansas, preceded him in death. Chris is survived by his mother, Marlene Smith of LaFollette, TN; father and step mother, John and Patricia Gallagher of Maryville, TN; sister, Jessica Gallagher Lay of Clinton, TN; brothers, Joshua Gallagher and wife, Yuko of Paducah, KY, Jacob Gallagher of Charlotte, NC, Patrick Gallagher of Cleveland, TN; nephew, Michael Heath Lay of Clinton, TN; nieces, Courtney Lay of Clinton, TN, Miyo Gallagher of Paducah, KY; grandparents, John and Anne Gallagher of Stratford, CT, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and step family. The family will receive friends 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church, 620 North Cedar Bluff Road followed by a Christian Vigil Service. A Mass will be held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Michael Woods celebrant. Interment will follow in the East Tennessee State Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the U S Navy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc., Attn: Donations, 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville, MD 20852.
