Bernard J. Gallagher Sr., 91, of the Chicora Medical Center died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday at the center with his family by his side.
Born in Freeport, April 27, 1915, he was the son of John J. and Anna M. Williams Gallagher.
He had worked in the wheel works department at Armco-Butler Works and retired in 1970 after 32 years. After retiring, he was head custodian at the St. Paul School for four years. He then did custodial help at the Butler County Courthouse for four years.
Mr. Gallagher was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the K of C Bowling League and the 65 Retirees.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sandra L. Bachman Gallagher, with whom he lived for five years before moving to the Chicora Medical Center; four grandchildren, Joe and Tammy Gallagher, both of Chicora and Robert S. Isaacs Jr. and Scott J. Isaacs Sr., both of Butler; and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Walter Gallagher of Butler and Edward Gallagher of Slippery Rock; a sister, Mrs. John (Patty) Swidzinski of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
His wife, Loretta J. Gardner Gallagher, died Jan. 31, 2000. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta Isaacs; a son, Bernard J. Gallagher Jr.; two sisters; and a brother.
GALLAGHER - There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for Bernard J. Gallagher Sr., who died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Harry Bielewicz officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Members of the St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
