Brian R. Gabel, 32, of Akron, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Reverend Tanya Sherrill of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Brian Richard Gabel was born January 16, 1980 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Richard Alan and Sue Carol (Baack) Gabel. Brian was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron and later confirmed at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Brian attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 1999. Brian was currently working for Iowa Pilot Cars, traveling throughout the United States.

Brian was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Early on, Brian enjoyed wrestling and bowling. He was avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Twins, and the Michigan Wolverines. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. But most of all, he loved the times spent with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his parents: Richard and Sue Gabel of Akron; his daughter: Mackenzie Gabel of Spirit Lake, IA; his sister: Krystal Gabel of Omaha, NE; his special friend and family who truly loved him: Michelle Schonrock and her children, Jamison, Isaiah, and Reagan, all of Sioux City, IA; his paternal grandmother: Irene Gabel of Akron; his aunts and uncles and their families: Tom Baack (Janet) of Le Mars, IA, Kathy Baack of Las Vegas, NV, Jerry Baack of Denver, CO, Rick Baack (Diane) of Le Mars, IA, Beth Williams of Hawarden, IA, George Baack (Laurie) of Toledo, IA, Chris Harms (Gene) of Le Mars, IA; and Patti Kopp (Chuck) of Kennewick, WA.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: Virgil Gabel; his maternal grandparents: Kenny and Bonnie Baack; his uncle: Brian Baack; and his aunt: Julie Baack.
