  Josephine (Jo) Frazier Davidson succumbed to a courageous 8-year battle with cancer on August 25, 2003. She was born in Hattiesburg, Miss., to the late John Martin and Jo Wood Frazier. She is survived by her husband, John Kenneth Davidson, Sr., of Eau Claire, Wis., and Athens, Ga.; two sons, John Kenneth Davidson, Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Stephen Wood Davidson of Atlanta, Ga.; as well as John’s wife Lisa Jordan Davidson; and grandsons John Kenneth (Jake) Davidson III and William Langhlin Davidson of Houston. She also leaves numerous friends including Patricia Hoveland of Athens, William S. (Bill) and Jean W. Vining of Houston, Texas, and Katha Massey of Athens. She took special joy in her two grandchildren and the many accomplishments of her sons.

Jo graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science and was a member of Phi Mu. She also obtained her Masters Degree in Library Science from Florida State where she completed a thesis on the author James Street.

Jo had a distinguished career in the field of Library science, including serving as Cataloger, Armstrong State College in Savannah, Ga.; Chief of Technical Services at Augusta Regional Library System, Augusta, Ga.; Cataloger, Eau Claire Public Library, Eau Claire, Wis.; and Head, Non-Book Cataloging Section, The University Libraries, The University of Georgia, Athens, Ga. She recently retired as Principal Non-Book Cataloger from the University Libraries in Athens. During her career, Jo served as a Director of Cataloging for the Georgia Newspaper Project, and a consultant on cataloging rules for the Library of Congress and American Library Association. She had particular interests and expertise in the cataloging of audio-visual and rare newspapers. Jo also served a term as President of the American Business Women’s Association in Eau Claire.

Her leisure time interests included reading fiction, arts and crafts, and collecting Christmas ornaments, dolls and stuffed animals. Jo’s lifelong love of cats provided her with many moments of joy starting with her first cat, Tiger, through SuFan and SuZan. An Episcopalian, she was a member of Christ Church Cathedral in Eau Claire, Wis.

Interment will be in Hattiesburg, Miss., leaving from Moore Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 15. A memorial service will be held in Athens at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church on Friday, September 26 at 4 p.m. The family requests that contributions be made to The Center for Cancer Support, Athens Regional Medical Center, 1199 Prince Ave., Athens, GA 30606, in lieu of flowers. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge.
