M. Frances Bates
M. Frances Bates, 84, of Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim, formerly of 119 W. Donegal St., Mount Joy, died at the home Wednesday.
She had been under a doctor's care at the time of her death.
Born in Cheyenne, Wyo., she was the daughter of the late Cecil A. and Carrie E. (Horn) Foster and the step-daughter of the late Clyde T. "Indiana" Miller.
She was the wife of Warren W. Bates, who died in April 1972.
A homemaker, she was a volunteer tour guide for more than 20 years with Johnson's Bus Service and Conestoga Transportation Co.
She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Mount Joy. She also was a member of Mount Joy Leisure Club and the Maytown Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. Warren E. Bates of Northampton and Roger W. Bates of Holtwood; two daughters, Martha B., wife of Richard A. Adamire of Baltimore, and Marjorie B., wife of John W. Urban of Lancaster; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a brother, W. Leroy Miller of Marietta; and three sisters, Helen Wealand of Daytona Beach, Fla., Laura, wife of John Bianchi of Palm Beach, Fla., and Virginia Pyle of Elizabethtown.
