Ai Hai Fong, 103, of Salinas, passed away peacefully on Easter morning, April 8, 2012, at Pacific Coast Care Center. Ai was born January 15, 1909, in Hoi-Ping Village, Guangdong, China.

She married Mr. Frank Moon Tung Fong in 1927, in China. They had one daughter, the late Mrs. Tao Huang Wong. A couple years later, Frank went back to the U.S. to make a living to support his family. After a long separation of almost 20 years, Ai immigrated to the U.S. and finally reunited with her loving husband, Frank in 1948. Ai lived with Frank on the Hansen Ranch in Salinas where he was the ranch house cook.

With four more children, Frank and Ai purchased their family home on E. Market St. so the children could attend school. Ai worked as a green onion buncher at the Market St. home for a number of years and later for Iwamoto Farms, walking to work everyday to help support and raise her family while Frank continued to work at the Hansen Ranch until his retirement in 1966.

Ai Hai Fong was preceded in death by her late husband, Frank in 1980; her daughter, Tao Huang Wong and her God-daughter, Mrs. Gwen Lee.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Cheang (Stewart) of Union City; three sons, Denny (Joyce Martin), Albert (Ginger), Gilbert Fong of Salinas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank all the brothers and sisters of the Salinas Chinese Christian Church, to all the caregivers at Pacific Coast Care Center and to all the family friends for their love, their prayers, their care and encouragement to Ai Hai Fong and her family.

Services will be held Monday, April 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m., at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas.

Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the Salinas Chinese Christian Church Building Fund or to the donor's favorite charity.
