TEN EYCK FONDA, HERO OF CIVIL WAR, IS DEAD
Bore Message From General Stanton to Meade Telling Where Lee's Army Lay.

Ten Eyck H. Fonda, a hero of the Civil war and pioneer resident of Omaha, died Friday afternoon at his home the Cornish apartments, after an illness of two weeks.
Mr Fonda at the age of 17 served in the Military Telegraph corps with Andrew Carnegie, Thomas T. Eckert, Homer bates and Edward Rosewater. he was the dispatch bearer who was personally thanked by Secreary [sic] of War Stanton for having delivered a message which changed the tide if the war through hazardous wilderness. The message was from Stanton to Major General Meade telling him the location of Lee's rebel army and of Lee's plans. Fonda was the only one of three who carried the message to get through alive.
Born at Fonda, N. Y., in 1838, thirty years later he married Harriet McNeil at Fonda. Ten years later they came to Omaha where they have since resided. Until 1904 he was with the Burlington railroad but retired in that year.
In October, 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Fonda celebrated their golden anniversary. Circumstances of the World war prevented all of their children being with them on that date.
Besides Mrs. Fonda, four children survive. They are: T. H. Fonda, jr., William B. Fonda of Omaha, Douw H. Fonda, new York city and Mrs. Oscar Gareissen, Rochester, N. Y.
Services will be at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the chapel at Forest Lawn cemetery, where interment will also take place.
