Nellie F "NaNa" Blakemore, 95, of of 283 Aylor Grubbs Avenue, Stanley, passed away on Thursday, Nov 27,2008, at Page Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Blakemore was born on April 16, 1913 in Shenandoah, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Ernest Newton and Mary Belle May Foltz.
She was married on March 21, 1936 to Paul O Blakemore, who preceded her in death on May 15,1994. She was also preceded in death by her niece, Mary R. Donovan Hilliard, whom she raised as a daughter; four sisters, Eula Wing, Edith Thomas, Evelyn Minnick and Hilda Ingram; and four brothers, Ernest, Floyd, Ralph and Raymond Foltz.
Mrs Blakemore worked as a waitress and cook at Jenkins Restaurant and Al's Place in Stanley before retiring. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch, watching Wheel of fortune, collecting salt and pepper shakers, and growing flowers. She made many trips to Cherokee, N.C. with her husband before his death.
She will be sadly missed by her granchildren and their spouses and children; Dianna, Dwight, Josh and Darrin Alger; Paul, Michelle, Olivia and Brittney Donovan; Gail and David Turner and Jimmie Vaughan; and Penny and Reed Beahm and Lindsey Hedrick-Sapanca and Robbie Beahm. She is also surived by two great-great granchildren, Jacob Hedrick and Jordan Hedrick-Sapanca and a brother Harold Fultz.
The family received friends on Saturday, Nov. 29,2008, from 7-8 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted on Sunday Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home with Evangelist Earl Painter officiating. Burial followed at Hilliards Chapel.
