Birth: 1934
Death: 2004

Margaret A. “Peg” Coughlin, age 69. A loving wife, mother, nannie and friend passed away suddenly on April 1, 2004, while on vacation with girlfriends in South Carolina and Georgia.

She was born on April 5, 1934 in La Crosse, Wis., the daughter of the late Mathias and Margaret (Farrell) Flock. On Aug. 3, 1957, she married Richard “Dick” Coughlin in La Crosse. She graduated from Saint Francis School of Nursing in 1955 as a registered nurse. She was a dedicated nurse in the psychiatric field for 45 years until she retired in 1999. Peg volunteered for Leaven and St. Vincent De Paul and distributed communion at church and hospitals.

She is survived by her husband, Richard “Dick” Coughlin of Appleton; Terri Coughlin of Cleveland, Ohio; Jeff (Ginny) Coughlin and their children, Adam, Benjamin and Emma, all of Merton, Wis.; Kevin (DaRae) Coughlin and their children, Andrew and Cameron of Omro, Wis.; Mary Beth (Jeff) Otto and their children, Nick, Megan and Katie of Darboy, Wis.; Patty Jo Coughlin of Phoenix, Ariz., and many other relatives.

Peg was passionate about living life to the fullest. Her family and multitude of friends meant the world to her and she would drop everything to lend a hand or comforting shoulder. She had such a positive outlook on life, wonderful smile and fun-loving spirit that influenced everyone she met. Peg had boundless energy and pursued her artistic passions through quilting, sewing, rosemaling, painting and teaching three of her grandsons how to paint. In addition, she relished in meeting and turning strangers into friends, and the travels her adventurous nature took her, as impractical as some of those journeys may have seemed to the rest of us. She was also dedicated to improving her health through walking, swimming and working out. Peg was particularly proud of her Irish heritage — evident to all, through her smiling eyes.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, April 6, at noon at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald St. with the Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. Visitation will also be on Tuesday, April 6, at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Luncheon and an Irish celebration of Peg’s life will be held at the Columbus Club, 2531 N. Richmond St., following the Mass. A memorial fund is being established for Leaven. Wichmann Funeral Home, call (920) 832-9905, of Menasha is handling arrangements

An Irish Prayer

May God grant you always

A sunbeam to warm you

A moonbeam to charm you

A sheltering angel

So nothing can harm you

Laughter to cheer you

Faithful friends near you

And whenever you pray

Heaven to hear you
