Alice Armine Fletcher was born in Sheboygan County, WI. She was married to Edward S. Amidon on August 9, 1887 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WI. After the death of her first husband, Edward S. Amidon, she married George Lincoln Smith, who was a widower.
The following is from her obituary published in the Springfield Republican (Springfield, MA) on Thursday, February 8, 1940:
MRS ALICE A. SMITH DEAD AT AGE OF 73.
North Brookfield, Feb.7--Mrs. Alice A. (Fletcher) Smith of High street, died today in Hahnemann hospital, Worcester. She was born in Webster (sic) and had been a resident of this town for many years. Mrs. Smith was the first woman tax collector in the state, holding that office in Phillipston after the death of her first husband, Edward S. Amidon. She was a member of the First Congregational church, King's Daughters, North Brookfield Grange and Quaboag Pomona Grange. Besides her husband she leaves a son, Herbert W. Amidon of Saugus and a sister, Mrs. Richard Penrose of Rockford, Ill.
At the time of her death, she was survived by her son and his wife, as listed, and 4 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. (The notes at the top and bottom of the page are from contributor Mary M.)
