J. W. Fleming died of nervous prostration at his home in Enterprise, Kansas, Thursday, aged about fifty-nine years. He was born in South Carolina. Short funeral services were held there under the charge of the Elks lodge and the body was brought to Holton for burial. Sunday afternoon the I. 0. 0. F. funeral services were held at the undertaking parlors of C. J. Hardin, and the body was buried in the Holton cemetery. Mr. Fleming's two sons, Seth, of Miltonvale, and John of Enterprise, with their wives, and two brothers, were present at the funeral .... Mr. Fleming lived in Holton for fifteen years, having been in the drug business here. He was county superintendent for a term. He went from here to Soldier and lived there for several years, going from there to Enterprise. During the last years of his life he was very successful in business and was interested in a number of profitable enterprises at the time of his death.

.... His brother, David .... When a boy he came to Kansas and early in his life took up teaching. At one time he was the youngest county superintendent in the state. He purchased the Soldier drug store business about sixteen years ago and made his home here for several years and at one time owned much property in Soldier, but disposed of all but some interest in the light plant .... The funeral was held at Holton Sunday afternoon, under the direction of the Odd Fellows.
