• PHOENIX, Ariz. -- A celebration of life service for Ardmore native Marva Lee Finley Manual was conducted Dec. 30, 2001, at the Rhema Christian Center in Phoenix, Ariz. Interment was at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona under the direction of Webber's Eastlake Mortuary.

Marva Lee was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Ardmore, to Marvin and Coral York Finley. She transitioned this life Dec. 30, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Raymond Finley; and a daughter, Sandra Moppins.

Marva graduated from Douglass High School and attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark. She united with Sunrise Baptist Church at an early age in Ardmore and committed her life to Christ.

Marva met and married Mathew Don Manual and the family relocated to Phoenix in the mid 1940s. While employed by General Electric, Marva pursued her education at Phoenix College and received her bachelor's of science degree in elementary education from Arizona State University where she also sought an advanced degree. She taught in Roosevelt School District, retiring after 25 years as a full-time instructor. She then worked as a substitute teacher many years.

Marva Lee was an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and South Phoenix Women's Club. She united with South Minister Presbyterian Church were she served as elder and deacon, participating in the Women's Guild, prayer line and adult choir. Later Marva united with the Spirit of Faith Community Church where she served until her health declined.

Marva Manual was a faithful servant of the Lord, an avid reader and served her community with diligence. She had a natural talent for singing and used her gift to praise the lord.

A devoted wife and mother, she is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mathew Don; two sons, Mathew Don III, Phoenix, and Warren, Camden, Ark.; three daughters, Donna Tillis, Barbara Gray and Deborah Dillihant, all of Phoenix; two sisters, Charlotte "Baby Girl" Cauley and Anita "LeeDell" Bunton Sr., also Phoenix; two brothers, Henderson E. "Baby Boy" Finley, New York City, and Dr. Lieutenant W. "Jewel" Finley, Phoenix; three cousins, Hercules Finley, Enid, Willia Mae Finley Batchelor, Oklahoma City, and Bettye Finley Cox, Ardmore; more than 100 grand and great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
