Anne Nairn Ferrick, 94, of New Kensington, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, in the emergency room of UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Sept. 10, 1911, in Elizabeth Township, she lived in New Kensington most of her life.

She was a 1931 graduate of the Frick Training School for Teachers. During World War II, she was the primary author of the Fort Kohler Cookbook, of which all proceeds went to support the American Red Cross, while married to Col. James Hamilton Ferrick, the commandant of the Signal School at Fort Kohler, Calif. He later retired as director of the Gulf Research Lab in Harmarville.

She was a 70-year member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and past president of the Christian Mothers; a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as Grand Regent; the Pucketos Garden Club, where she was a past president; and was the founding member of the New Kensington Investment Club.

Survivors include four sons, James Hamilton (Mary) Ferrick, of St. Louis, Patrick Nelson (Natasha) Ferrick of Sagle, Idaho, John Regis "Jay" Ferrick of Millvale, and Peter Nairn Ferrick of Hayden, Idaho; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Sweeney of Fortune, Calif., and Dorothy Witt, of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Regis Nairn of Pittsburgh, and Edward Nairn of Ann Arbor, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. James H. Ferrick; her parents, Patrick F. and Brigit L. Nelson Nairn; two brothers, John and Warren Nairn; and three sisters, Phyllis Quinn, Patricia Sweeney and Marylyn Koski.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder Street, where a prayer service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Christian funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church, New Kensington, by the Rev. Larry Kulick. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Lower Burrell. Catholic Daughters of America and the church Christian Mothers will meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Friday to conduct services.
