Maurie E. Ferguson, 53, of Atlanta died at 1 a.m. Tuesday in Rapides General Hospital after a brief illness. He was a grocer and a member and long-time treasurer of Atlanta Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Billie P. Ferguson of Atlanta; four sons, Ricky Ferguson, Dan Ferguson, Ronnie Ferguson and Keith Ferguson, all of Atlanta; three daughters, Becky Guynes, Connie Longino and Michelle Bazar, all of Atlanta; his mother, Carrie Ferguson of Atlanta; three brothers, Lelan Ferguson and Prentis L. Ferguson, both of Atlanta, and L. O. Ferguson of Gardner; three sisters, Vera Smith and Sybil Vails, both of Atlanta, and Velma Lang of Shreveport; and seven grandchildren.

Services were to be held at 2:30 p.m. today in Atlanta Methodist Church with the Revs. Mark Martin and Oliver Thomas officiating. Burial was to be in the church cemetery under direction of Southern of Winnfield.
