She was born in the Badlands of South Dakota on June 21, 1910. She was the first child of George Gunn and Vesta Cora (Curtis) Gunn. Buddee enjoyed riding and ranching with her brothers, Lester and George, and her late sister, Idella Jean.
She attended Spearfish Teachers College, taught in a one-room schoolhouse near Wall, S.D., and after the age of 60, she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at Wayne State University.
Buddee married her beloved husband, Lloyd (late), in Detroit, on Sept. 11, 1932, and together they had three children, Beverly (McKay), Roger (late) and Barbara.
Esther and Lloyd had seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Buddee also will be missed by her friends in the Detroit Edison Glee Club, a group of wonderful people who brought music and joy to her life for many, many years.
Funeral services were at Nie Funeral Home, Ann Arbor, at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001. Cremation followed.
