Elma L. Bast, 85, formerly of Hazleton, passed away Thursday morning at the Mountain City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hazle Township. Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Faux) Faust, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of the Diamond Methodist Church, Hazleton.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph Bast, in 2008; a brother, Joseph; and sisters, Ruth Shershan and Doris West. Surviving are a niece and nephew caregivers, Ronald and Pamela J. Briggs, Freeland; nephews, Wayne and Jeff Shershan; good friends, John and Betty Serafini; and her beloved Calico cat, Brookie.
Funeral services will be held privately, with the Rev. Charles Englehart officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity German Catholic Cemetery, Hazleton. McHugh-Wilczek Funeral Home, 249 Centre St., Freeland, is in charge of arrangements.
