VALLEY NATIVE DIES AT AGE 99 Valley native Stella Falkenberg of Cañon City and formerly of Westcliffe died May 15, 1988 at St. Thomas More Hospital Progressive Care Center in Cañon City. She was 99. Mrs. Falkenberg was born in Silver Cliff on Feb. 13, 1889 to August William and Mary A. (Weber) Hage. She married Grover E. Falkenberg in Westcliffe on Sept. 13, 1909. He preceded her in death, as did a son, Joseph Falkenberg.
Mrs. Falkenberg was a homemaker, and was a member of the Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was very active in the Community Building and library in Westcliffe, and she loved to fish and garden. She and her husband lived in Westcliffe until 1938 when they moved to Denver. They returned to the Valley after retirement in the early 1970s. While in Denver, Mrs. Falkenberg worked for a furrier.
She is survived by a daughter, Lois E. Boehnker of Dayton, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Evie Miller and Bill Falkenberg of Westcliffe. Graveside services were held Friday, May 20, at the Ula Cemetery near Westcliffe. Arrangements were handled by Wilson-Almont Mortuary of Cañon City.
