Ruth Beard, 88, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Boerne, TX. Born in San Antonio on January 18, 1924, Ruth was a daughter of Erskine Paul Ezzell and Ethel Murphy. She grew up in San Antonio and Galveston and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1940 after induction into the National Honor Society. Ruth worked at Southern Equipment Co. and Mastersound, and she taught kindergarten at both the Methodist and Presbyterian churches in Alamo Heights. She was employed with Texas Military Institute for four years and Ernie's Kwik Kopy Printing for 25 years. Ruth married John Warren Beard in 1944 in Shawnee, OK, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy, and they raised three children in San Antonio. Ruth enjoyed visiting with her family, traveling, and reading. She was a member of St. Luke Episcopal Church. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, John, an infant son, Thomas Alan, and a sister, Laverne Davis Commander. Ruth is survived by her son, John Beard and wife Kathy, daughter, Ruth and husband Edward Coffey, son, Robert Beard and wife Jean, brother, Bill Ezzell and wife Cheryl and their daughter Danielle, grandchildren, Becky Beard and husband Santiago Lopez, Will Beard, Camille Coffey and fiance Brian Davila, Andy Coffey, Bill Souder and wife Janice, Kevin McLeod, Jennifer Beard Butler, Stephanie Beard, Stacie Beard and fiance Ray Baquero, and great-grandchildren Fenegan Lopez, Liam Davila, Anastasia, Maylee, Daniel, and Johnathan Beard, and Kayla Goodno. The family wishes to thank the staff of Care Choice Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boerne. A memorial service will be held for Ruth at Vaughan's Funeral Home in Boerne on Friday, June 15 at 10 A.M. with interment following at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio at 3:00 P.M.
