Judy Gail Boteler, 74, of Roanoke, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 6, 2016.

Judy grew up in a large family in Winston-Salem, N.C. and graduated from James A. Gray High School. She married the love of her life, Bruce, on April 14, 1960, and together they had four daughters and eight grandchildren.

Judy was constantly giving of her time and talents: She served as a volunteer tutor and teacher’s assistant at Oak Grove Elementary School, volunteer at Lewis Gale Hospital, Girl Scout leader, Preschool Teacher at Windsor Hills Methodist Church, AWANA Leader for six years, Preschool Sunday School Teacher and Director of Fifth Grade Sunday School at First Baptist Church, altar guild volunteer and memorial meal volunteer at St. John Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Judy loved sewing and was a talented artist. She designed, sewed, and created over one hundred costumes and flags for the First Baptist Church pageants.

When Judy and Bruce were not busy volunteering, they loved being in nature- sailing, bird watching, gardening, and spending time at Smith Mountain Lake with their family.

She is preceded in death by her father, Luther, and mother, Betty Everhart, brothers, LeGrande Everhart and Bill Everhart, and sister, Betty Everhart Jones. In addition to her devoted husband of 56 years, Bruce, Judy is survived by her daughters: Bonnie Boteler Dodson (Earl), Julie Boteler Fueglein (Dave), Melanie Boteler Shandor (Steve), and Amy Boteler Doeller (Rob); grandchildren: Laura Dodson, David Dodson, Juliet Fueglein, Olivia Fueglein, Grace Doeller, Chester Shandor, Sophie Fueglein, and Henry Doeller; sisters, Doris Hutchens and Maxine Page; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Judy’s gentle and generous spirit will live on through her husband, her daughters, her grandchildren, her beautiful art, her wildflowers, and every person’s life she touched through volunteer work.

A visitation will take place Friday, July 8, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church, 4608 Brambleton Avenue in Roanoke, Virginia, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Judy’s life will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s honor may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
