Utica, Jan, 30 - Griffith H. Evans of 131 Mary Street, was found dead at his post in Sessions' millinery store at 8:15 last evening. Night Watchman Haley was making his rounds as usual on trying the doors of various establishments on the block when he found the rear door of the Sessions establishment unlocked. He entered and found Mr. Evans, night watchman at the store, on the floor dead. Physicians were summoned who pronounced heart disease the cause of death.
Mr. Evans was born in the town of Steuben about 64 years ago and lived in that place for many years. He was a cheese maker by trade and very expert. He had charge of cheese factories in Steuben, Holland Patent and other places in this county and he had also lived for several years in the west, where he also had charge of a cheese factory. He was much respected by all who knew him.
Mr. Evans was twice married. His first wife was Jane Jones of Steuben and his second Jane Evans. The latter died March 13, 1899.
He leaves a brother, W.H. Evans of Remsen and a daughter, Miss Jane Evans of this city. Rome Daily Sentinel, Thursday Evening, January 30, 1908
