GREENSBORO - Ethel Evans Echols passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009 at the Carolina Commons Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1210 S. Eugene Street. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.

Public viewing will begin at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, October 1, 2009 and will culminate with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority's Omega Omega service from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. at Hargett Funeral Service, 905 E. Market Street.

Ethel was born September 8, 1918 in Guilford County to Noum Evans and Mamie Ledwell Evans. She was one of thirteen children and the last sibling to succumb to death. Mrs. Echols retired from the Greensboro Public School System where she served as an Elementary teacher for over 32 years.

She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church and, since November 30, 1950, a loyal member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Beta Mu Sigma Chapter.

She is survived by her husband, Everett Raphael Echols; daughter, Sandra Echols Sharp; son, Dr. Everett Raphael Echols, Jr.,; son-in-law, Dr. Richard Sharp; grandson, Christopher Dominion Sharp (Grace); great-grandson, Raphael Aran Sharp, and numerous other relatives and friends.
