Mrs. Carolyn Beard Evans, 83, widow of John Orville Evans, one of the founders of the Postal Telegraph Company and a former resident of Fayetteville, died last night at her home in Washington, D. C. after an illness of one week with pneumonia, relatives here were informed today.
Mrs. Evans moved to Washington from Fayetteville in 1863, but returned each summer to spend a vacation there. Funeral services will be conducted at the home of her niece, Mrs. Irving D. Perry, 115 Genesee st., Fayetteville, at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery.
Surviving besides Mrs. Perry are two nephews, Dr. Louis C. Ecker and J. Orville Ecker, both of Washington, D. C. and another niece, Mrs. Lou B. Cleveland of Scarsdale, Pa.
