He was born in Ohio, IL, to William and Mary (Peterson) Etheridge. Bobby worked on the family farm during the depression years.
Bobby was twelve years old at the time of his father's death, and due to hard times, he and his twin brother were separated and sent off to live with different families, living 90 miles apart, working for room and board. Bobby lost his twin brother in a tragic accident when they were 14.
Bobby entered the US Army in 1945 and served in occupied Japan and Korea. He retired from the US Air Force in 1968 with 22 years service. He then worked for Chrysler and retired after 12 years. In 1992, Bobby met Jeanne Holmes and moved to Rapid City where they lived as "life partners" for the next 19 years until Jeanne's death in May 2012.
They enjoyed traveling and spending time in Deadwood. Bobby always commented that the years he and Jeanne spent together were the best years of his life.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father, mother; brother, Lyle; sister, Lorraine; brother, Billy; and his life partner, Jeanne Holmes.
He is survived by the family he enjoyed for several years, Jeanne's children, Dianne Thatcher (Eric), Orangevale, CA; Steve (Teri) Holmes, Flagstaff, AZ; Mike (Cindy) Holmes, Rapid City; and Jeanne's several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Bobby and Jeanne at a later date.
Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
