Amanda came to America on June 11, 1892 aboard the steamer Britanic. She settled in Cherry Creek, NY, working as a maid and married Aaron Towne, son of the family she worked for. They had 5 children; Clella Mareen Towne (Horton) 1894-1984, Roger Aaron Towne 1895-1969, Horace Otis Towne 1903-1960, Guy Erickson Towne 1905-1980 and Grace May Towne (Ehmke) 1905-1972. Guy and Grace were twins.
