Edna Kristine (Erickson) Brandt, age 89 years 8 months, passed away at her home in Eagle Point, Ore., on April 13, 2009. Edna was born in St. Paul, Minn., on Aug. 7, 1919, to Gustaf Erickson, from Sweden, and Caroline (Jacobsen) Erickson, from Norway. She was the third born of six children. Edna was raised and educated in St. Paul, graduating from Johnson High School in 1938. Edna met and fell in love with Oscar Brandt in 1939. In 1940, she was the Queen of the St. Paul Harvest Festival and also was chosen as the Royal Princess of the St. Paul Winter Sports Festival. She moved to Los Angeles, Calif., and married Oscar Brandt on Oct. 19, 1941. They were married for 67 years.
Edna and Oscar started their family and lived in the Los Angeles area for 16 years, moving to Saratoga, Calif., for 27 years, Grass Valley, Calif., for 17 years, and finally living the last five yeras in Eagle Point, Ore.
Edna is survived by her husband, Oscar; daughter, Barbara Schmaltz (Larry), of Eagle Point, Ore.; sons, John (Laurie), of Los Gatos, Calif., and Richard (Artis), of Billings, Mont. Also surviving are six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Her son, David, preceded her in death in 1982.
Edna was an ardent member of the Sons of Norway, active member of the Cascade Community Pool in White City and an active member of the Eagle Point Women's Club.
Over the years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and organist for the Lutheran churches they attended. She did volunteer work for many charitable organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Eagle Point, Ore. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flower donations, please contribute to your local American Cancer Society. Her final resting place will be the family nitch at Oak Hill Cemetery, San Jose, Calif.
She was highly respected and deeply loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, and all those who knew her.
